ISP Traffic Stop Leads to Foot Pursuit

(VIGO CO.) – On Friday night, two men were arrested after an Indiana State Trooper stopped the vehicle they were in for inoperable tail lights and a broken back windshield at 3rd Street near Chestnut Street in Vigo County.

Once stopped, the trooper immediately detected suspicious activity and asked for identification.

The driver was identified as 22-year-old Cameron J. Jent, 22, and the passenger was 18-year-old Damien W. Swinson, both of Terre Haute.

The Terre Haute Police Department and Vigo County Sheriff’s Department  were requested to assist.

The trooper searched the vehicle and found a handgun located under the passenger side seat. 

The trooper requested the assisting officers to detain the two men. Jent fled on foot. During the chase officers witnessed Jent stashing items in a water drain. The foot pursuit was brief and Jent was taken into custody.

Officers continued to search the vehicle and found another gun under the driver’s seat, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Officers confiscated pills from the water drain, which were not prescribed to Jent.

Police also learned neither men had a permit to carry a gun.

Both were arrested and transported to the Vigo County Jail.

Jent faces multiple charges that include possession of a legend drug, maintaining a common nuisance, carrying a handgun without a permit, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting law enforcement.

Swinson is faces charges of maintaining a common nuisance, carrying a handgun without a permit, and possession of a controlled substance.
