(LOWELL) – On December 19, 2020, thirty-six probationary troopers graduated from the 80th Indiana State Police Academy. This week, nine of those troopers reported for duty at the ISP- District.
Probationary troopers now begin their next phase of instruction, a three-month field training period, working alongside veteran troopers. Field training aims to give troopers a practical application to the training they received throughout the formal academy. Upon completing field training, the troopers will be assigned a state police patrol vehicle and begin solo patrol. These troopers have already completed over 1,200 hours of structured training in law enforcement techniques and hands-on, scenario-based training at the Indiana State Police Recruit Academy. Their curriculum included criminal law instruction, emergency vehicle operations, psychology, traffic law, crash investigation, self-defense, first responder, and other general enforcement related training.
The new troopers assigned to the Lowell Post are Kevin Council, Kansas Cox, Zachary Glenn, Riley Hieb, Jordan Jones, James Lee, Allison Marlow, Ryan Parent and Austin Robertson.
Trooper Cox is a 2015 graduate of Bedford North Lawrence High School in Bedford, IN. After high school, he served four years with the United States Marine Corp where he obtained the rank of Sergeant and was an aircraft rescue and fire fighting specialist.
Trooper Council is a 2015 graduate of LaPorte High School. After high school, he attended Vincennes University where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Homeland Security. Trp. Council is the son of Master Trooper Jeff Council, who is a 30 year veteran of ISP and is also assigned to the Lowell Post.
Trooper Glenn is a 2013 graduate of Thornridge High School in Dalton, IL. After high school, he attended Waldorf University on a scholarship for football. He obtained a bachelor’s in Criminal Justice in 2017 and a masters in Public Administration in 2019.
Trooper Hieb is a 2014 graduate of Silver Creek High School located in Sellersburg, IN. After high school, he attended Indiana University Southeast graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice.
Trooper Jones is a 2016 graduate of New Albany High School located in New Albany, IN. After high school, he attended Indiana University Southeast studying finance.
Trooper Lee is a 2016 graduate of Lake Central High School. After high school, he joined the Indiana Army National Guard where he will continue to serve as well as being a trooper.
Trooper Marlow is a 2018 graduate of DeKalb High School in Waterloo, IN. After high school, she attended Purdue Ft. Wayne studying Public Policy while working as a safety officer at Parkview Hospital in Ft. Wayne.
Trooper Parent is a 2016 graduate of Emmaus High School in Emmaus, PA. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was deployed to Afghanistan in 2017, serving one tour.
Trooper Robertson is a 2015 graduate of Linton Stockton High School located in Linton, IN. After high school, he played collegiate basketball at Oakland City University and then was employed as a jail officer with the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department.
