(ORLEANS) – After a lot of careful thought, Orleans Chamber of Commerce officials have announced that they have made the very difficult decision to cancel the 2020 “Orleans Christmas on the Square” event as a precautionary measure due to COVID-19.
The family orientated event, traditionally held the second weekend in December, was set this year to take place downtown on December 12th.
“This was not an easy decision to reach. We have been in close conversations with Orange County Health officials for several weeks now in hopes that we could still go forward with at least a portion of the planned activities,” said Chamber Executive Director Robert Henderson. “However, despite our very best efforts it just not going to be feasible at this point.”
Chamber President Randy Clark echoed the same sentiments in regards to his disappointment in having to cancel the popular community event.
“The general health and safety of our community, visitors and volunteers must continue to be our top priority,” he said. “We just have to keep reminding ourselves that this is in no way a normal kind of year.
“Obviously 2020 has not been at all what anyone expected,” said chamber
board member and treasurer Wendy Sprigler. “We hope everyone remains
healthy and safe, and we look forward to resuming our normal activities and special community events when it is safe to do so.”
“We are already very busy looking ahead with plans to come back strong with all our activities and special events in 2021.” Henderson added.
