State Road 45/2nd Street Bridge Dedication Planned Oct. 28 In Bloomington

(MONROE CO.) – The State Road 45/2nd Street bridge over I-69 will be named for fallen Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputy Sarah Haylett-Jones next week.

A dedication ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 28, at the Indiana Department of Transportation Sub District location in Bloomington. House Concurrent Resolution 17 was passed in February by the Indiana General Assembly to dedicate the bridge in memory of Deputy Haylett-Jones.

Deputy Haylett-Jones joined the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office after serving in the United States Air Force and Montgomery, Ala. Police Department. She spent her life protecting and helping others until she died in October 2008 from injuries sustained while directing traffic at the scene of a crash on State Road 45 near Bloomington. Deputy Haylett-Jones is being honored for her service to Monroe County and the state of Indiana. 

Community members, as well as city and county officials from Bloomington and Monroe County are invited to attend the ceremony along with Rep. Peggy Mayfield, and friends and family of Deputy Haylett-Jones.

Attendees will be asked to socially distance and wear masks due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
