(BEDFORD) – On Tuesday afternoon children and adults gathered for the “Blessing of The Animals”.
The blessing of the animals was done in conjunction with the Feast of St. Francis which was on Sunday October 4th.
Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals and ecology, loved all creatures. Churches in the United States celebrate the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi on October 4th every year. The blessing event is usually held around this time.
Children bring their pets to be blessed, some services include a verbal blessing and holy water. This year’s blessing was held in the parking lot of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
Father Jegan Peter and Deacon David Reising both read a few passages prior to the blessing.
Father Jegan then blessed the children and the pets in attendance. Many attend the event every year.
