
(BEDFORD) – Two people were injured in a one-vehicle accident on North Jackson Street Saturday morning.
According to a Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department report, officers were alerted to the crash at 9:56 a.m.
According to police 23-year-old Derek Hardy, of Bedford, was traveling northbound in his 1998 GM pickup on North Jackson Street and was going down a hill when his brakes stopped working.
The truck traveled across Broomsage Road and collided with a dirt berm. The vehicle rolled three times and Hardy’s passenger 21-year-old Jeremy Schmidt was ejected from the vehicle.
Neither men were wearing seat belts.
Schmidt suffered back pain and was transported by a Seals ambulance crew to IU Health Hospital for treatment.
Hardy suffered a laceration to his left eye, but refused to be transported.
