(BEDFORD) – United Way of South Central Indiana announces it has been approved to receive the United IN20 Matching Grant of up to $50,587, administered by Indiana United Ways with funds from the Lilly Endowment Inc.
The funds for this project will be used to conduct an ACEs study in collaboration between United Way of South Central Indiana, North Lawrence Community Schools, Families Forever, Indiana University School of Social Work, and Indiana University School of Public Health.
The study will be based on the CDC-Kaiser Permanente Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) Study, which is one of the largest investigations of childhood abuse and neglect and household challenges and later-life health and well-being. Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) can negatively impact an entire community.
Dr. John Keesler, PhD, LMSW, Assistant Professor IU School of Social Work, will perform this research study as consultant coordinating his work along with Dr. Priscilla Barnes, IU Public Health. Results of the study will be shared with the community and businesses in the community.
The community is in need of a comprehensive community resource directory for substance, alcohol, family abuse, or mental health issues in Lawrence County, Indiana. Results of our ACEs study combined with ALICE statistics will provide us with information for a new resource website. This will be a one-stop-shop. This will be a Resource Center for ACEs solutions for families and their children in the community.
The website will be built by Families Forever and it will contain a diverse database for all areas of social services. The website will include online downloadable and printable training materials for informational sessions with community partners.
