I-69 Finish Line Weekly Update

(MARTINSVILLE) – Progress on access road and bridge construction along State Road 37 north of Martinsville means that drivers should watch for changing traffic patterns in the coming days.

  • Whiteland Road is scheduled to close today east of S.R. 37 to build a new access road. This is a permanent closure. Click here to view a map.
  • Lane closures are expected Wednesday and overnight stoppages of up to 20 minutes are expected Wednesday and Thursday on S.R. 37 near Waverly Road to install bridge beams. More information is in our Building Bridges spotlight below.
  • Ennis Road is scheduled to close Thursday to build the New Harmony Road extension along S.R. 37. The closure is expected to last for several weeks. Local access will be maintained to the south using Egbert Road and Henderson Ford Road.
  • Egbert Road is scheduled to close east of Willowbrook Drive on or after September 14. Temporary access to Willowbrook Drive will be maintained through Egbert Road at S.R. 37. Click here to view a map. The closure will allow crews to connect Egbert Road with the new bridge under construction.

Banta, Big Bend, Cragen and Henderson Ford roads remain open at S.R. 37, and drivers should expect an increase in local traffic at these intersections.

New access roads are also starting to come online. The realigned Twin Branch Road is opening in phases to provide property access north of S.R. 44. A new access road connecting Country Club Road to Morgan Road and Myra Lane could open as early as next week. Watch for the latest traffic updates on I-69FinishLine.comFacebookTwitter and Instagram.

New bridges are taking shape along the I-69 Finish Line corridor. Bridges are being built over S.R. 37 for Egbert, Henderson Ford, Perry and Waverly roads. Watch this short video with members of the Project Team to learn more about what it takes to build a bridge.

Each bridge starts with a solid foundation with steel bridge pilings driven anywhere from 30 to 80 feet in the ground. Concrete footings, piers and end bents follow. Large concrete structural beams are then installed. They’re part of the superstructure supporting the bridge deck. Installing forms and adding reinforcing steel are the next steps before the concrete deck is poured.

Structural beams have already been installed on three of the four new bridges over S.R. 37. The large, concrete beams are scheduled to be set this week on the Waverly Road bridge. Lane closures and 20-minute traffic stoppages between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. on Wednesday and Thursday nights will allow cranes to lift and place the concrete beams.

The four new bridges are expected to be completed this fall. The new bridges will provide connectivity for motorists during next year’s temporary closure of S.R. 37 in Martinsville.

About I-69 Finish Line

I-69 Finish Line is the sixth and final section of the Interstate 69 connection between Evansville and Indianapolis. The project will upgrade the existing State Road 37 to interstate standards between Martinsville and Indianapolis.
