Bedford Man Injured In Accident

(FAYETTEVILLE) – A Bedford man was injured in a one-vehicle accident on State Road 158.

According to a Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department report, 23-year-old Mendelram Wright, of 35 Hill Top Dr., was traveling east on State Road 158 when a deer walked into the roadway.

Wright told police that he attempted to avoid the deer by turning his 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee to the left and ran off the north side of the road and struck two traffic signs. The vehicle then traveled down a rocky embankment and struck three trees.

He then left the scene.

Police found Wright at IU Health Hospital where he was being treated for back pain and abrasions to his head.

Wright told police he had drank a pint of vodka prior to the accident.

A blood and urine screen was done and those results are pending.
