Red Brick Will be Closed for Indefinite Amount of Time After Fire

(BEDFORD) – The Red Brick will be closed for an indefinite amount of time following a fire on Friday night.

According to Parks Director Barry Jeskewich, anyone who has a reservation now or the near future for the Red Brick needs to contact his office immediately or find another venue.

“The fire and insurance investigators now have concluded their investigation. We are now waiting for insurance adjusters to arrive and complete their work. We are expecting them to arrive tomorrow,” Jeskewich stated.

Bedford Fire Chief Dewayne Turpen said he will be talking with his fire investigator Tuesday morning and will release what possibly started the fire at a later time.

“The kitchen area is completely destroyed and there is smoke and soot throughout the whole building,” said Jeskewich. “It will take us a while to get to work on repairing the damage.”

The Red Brick was undergoing a construction project at the time of the fire. New flooring was being put in on the lower level.

Shortly after 9 p.m., Friday, Bedford Fire Department received a 911 call from the people who were living at the Red Brick.

Phil Burke (who is the green superintendent), his wife and child were living in an upstairs apartment. The city has made other accommodations for them while repairs are being made.

“We are thankful that no one was injured during the fire. We also want to thank Bedford Fire Department for their work in battling the blaze. They have done an excellent job,” Jeskewich concluded.

If you have rented the facility you need to contact the Bedford Parks Department immediately at (812)275-1650.
