Ted Allen Parker, 76, passed away Friday, November 8, 2019, at Indiana University Health Hospice House in Bloomington.
Born November 5, 1943, in Hollister, California, he was the son of Russell and Geraldine I. (Smith) Parker. He married Gail Carole Bigham on June 12, 1963, and she preceded him in death on September 28, 2006. He married Nicole Bowling on December 28, 2011.
Ted retired from Naval Surface Warfare Center – Crane with 31 years of service as a plastic molding department supervisor. He has umpired sports since 1964 and coached Babe Ruth and Little League from 1965- 1977. He directed Little League from 1993-1996. In 1971 he formed the high school girls track team. Ted coached the girls’ softball team in 1977, then took over the league in 1978. In 1979, he built the softball field from the ground up and maintained it until 2008. Ted coached the high school fastpitch team from 2004-2008. Ted also started the men’s 35 + softball league. He coached three generations of community children.
His hobbies included playing golf, woodworking, watching the Chicago Bears and the University of Louisville.
He attended the Mitchell Presbyterian Church and was honored as Mitchell Chamber of Commerce Volunteer of the Year and Times-Mail Hometown Hero.
Ted was a U. S. Army veteran.
Surviving wife, Nicole Parker of Mitchell, children, Rob (Amy ) Parker of Mitchell, Jill (Mark) Morse of Mitchell, Jamie (Rick) Philpott of Mitchell, stepchildren, Tyler (Ashley) Cavin of Hixson, Tennessee Myrsaides (Stephen) Cavin Ayers of Red Bank, Tennessee, Mia Cavin of Chattanooga, Tennessee grandchildren, Jesse (Allison) Parker, Emma Parker, Stacy (Gary) Rayhill, Cory Philpott, Ricci (Joe) Applegate, Cari (Jathan) Harper, Alix Richey, and Jeri Philpott, step-grandchildren, Emma Cavin, Rowan Cavin, Joel Alford, Audrey Ayers; Eric Morse, Bridget Morse, and Natalie Morse, 14 great-grandchildren, siblings, Sue Abril of Fresno, California, Jay D. Parker of Avondale, Arizona, Paulette Bell of Fresno, California
His parents; wife; and siblings, Dell Parker, Shirley DeMello, Sally Kleim, Ronnie Parker, and Brenda Brisco, preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 12, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Brother Jerry Allen officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Monday and from 10:00 a.m. until the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
