Girl Scouts of Central Indiana Celebrates International Day of the Girl by Investing in Girls

(UNDATED) – Beginning Friday, October 11, through Election Day, Girl Scouts of Central Indiana will offer a 50 percent membership discount for all new girls who register as Girl Scouts.

It costs just $25 to experience Girl Scouts for one year, so through this special discount offer, new girls may register for just $12.50. The discount is being offered in celebration of the International Day of the Girl, which is Friday.

“Now more than ever, the world needs more Girl Scouts – to lead, to achieve, and to change the world,” said Danielle Shockey, CEO of Girl Scouts of Central Indiana. “This discount is our tangible investment and bold statement of our commitment to girls’ futures. And what better way to celebrate International Day of the Girl and to wrap up this election season, than to ensure that our future leaders have the opportunity to participate in the BEST girl leadership experience in the world. Our organization offers hands-on, girl-led, girl-centered learning in STEM, outdoor adventures, and entrepreneurship, with abundant opportunities to develop invaluable life skills. Girl Scouts helps all girls take the lead early and often. And we’re backed by more than 100 years of experience and expertise in the field.“

The Girl Scout effect is proven: in the U.S., 90 percent of female astronauts, 50 percent of female business owners, and 73 percent of current female senators are Girl Scout alum! The single-gender environment offered by Girl Scouts creates an inclusive, safe space in which girls are free to explore their potential and take the lead without the distractions or pressures that can be found in a coed environment. Girl Scout alum experience greater lifetime benefits than those who were not Girl Scouts. They:

  • Have more successful careers
  • Are more active as mentors and community volunteers
  • Vote more regularly
  • Are better educated
  • Enjoy higher household and personal income
