(BEDFORD) – Bedford North Lawrence celebrated Senior Day and finished seventh in its annual Ted Fox Invitational during high school cross country action on Saturday morning.

No.17 Floyd Central won the team title in the boys race, totaling 44 points to edge No.15 Bloomington North (66). The Stars scored 170 points in the 16-team field.

In the girls race, No.9 Floyd Central claimed the crown with 42 points while No.22 Northview was second with 61. The Stars had only four finishers and failed to record a team score.

Cooper Holmes, one of nine seniors making their final regular-season appearance on the home course, paced BNL while finishing 16th in 17:05.55. Colton Sons set a personal record (for the BNL course) while crossing in 31st in 17:47.47, and senior Ethan Vaughn was 35th in 17:55.52.

“I was very happy with where we finished and how we raced,” BNL coach Jon Calhoun said. “We are learning where we need to be in racing but still have room for improvement, which is nerve wracking but exciting. We held our own in competing with the top teams.

“We had a lot of emotions on the team because this group of seniors has been a solid group that has pushed the program forward. Their leadership, competitive spirit and compassion for each other is unique and special. It will not be forgotten what impact they had.”

Bloomington North’s Paul Rushton was the individual winner in 16:09.13, while Hunter Griffin was second for the Highlanders in 16:20.23.

Grace Tanksley was the top finisher for BNL, crossing in 33rd place in 22:32.74.

In the girls race, BNL’s Emily Bartlett suffered a leg injury during the event and pulled out, leaving the Stars one short for a full team score. Grace Tanksley, fighting through some pain of her own, was 33rd in 22:32.74 while Lindley Steele was 39th in 23:07.52.

“It was a rough day,” BNL coach Jill Vance said. “Sickness and injury, and the temperature and humidity was brutal on those who did finish. We’ll need to take a mental break and reset.”

Edgewood star Annalyssa Crain was the individual champion in 18:42.19.

The Stars will compete in the Hoosier Hills Conference races on Oct. 5.
