City of Bloomington Utilities Issues Precautionary Boil Water Advisory

(BLOOMINGTON) – City of Bloomington Utilities (CBU) has repaired a damaged fire hydrant on John Hinkle Place, near N. Pete Ellis Drive. Some customers of CBU were temporarily disconnected from water service and are now under a precautionary Boil Water Advisory. Unless otherwise notified, the precautionary Boil Water Advisory will be lifted at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, September 25. The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) requires all public water systems to issue a Boil Water Advisory when the pressure drops below 20 psi in the water main.  Addresses affected include the following:

  • 3210 E 10th Street
  • 3100 John Hinkle Place
  • 3200 John Hinkle Place

Those affected should follow the instructions below:

  • Immediately after your normal water pressure is restored, run COLD water from a sink or tub until clear water flows from the faucet. 
  • Boil drinking water for at least 5 minutes prior to consumption.
  • It is recommended that all water used for drinking, cooking, and oral hygiene be brought to a full boil for FIVE minutes. It is not necessary to boil water for other uses.
