Seymour Man Now Facing Charge of Attempted Murder after Placing Plastic Bag on Woman’s Head

(SEYMOUR) – A Seymour man is now facing attempted murder charges after he allegedly broke into a woman’s home, injured her and placed a plastic bag over her head.

Seymour Police officers arrested 43-year-old Matthew Gillaspy on felony charges of burglary, strangulation and domestic battery in the presence of a child. A charge of attempted murder was added.

Officers responded to the woman’s home in the 700 block of West Fifth Street at 3:30 a.m. Monday.

The woman told police she woke up at 2 a.m. to find Gillaspy standing in her bedroom. The woman told police she and Gillaspy at one point had been in a relationship.

The woman told police at one point during the altercation, Gillaspy put a plastic bag over her head, and she started to scream. He then fled the home, and she called police.

Police found him at a residence on Elizabeth’s Way and he was arrested.

Gillaspy is being held in the Jackson County Jail without bond.
