Church Pays Off Medical Debt for Those in Washington, Harrison, Crawford, Perry Counties

(CORYDON) – First Capital Christian Church in Corydon, paid off $6.2 million in medical debt for people in Harrison, Crawford, Washington, and Perry counties.

The church partnered with RIP Medical Debt to make it happen.

The nonprofit organization buys medical debt from collection agencies and raises money to pay it off.

On Sunday, the church held a special offering with a goal of raising $28,000 for Harrison County residents’ $2.4 million-worth of medical debt.

The roughly 800-person congregation donated $70,000, which was enough to include three additional counties.

People in the four-county area will receive notices in the coming weeks letting them know their debt has been paid.

The collection at First Capital Christian Church was part of a statewide effort.

RIP Medical Debt chooses the recipients of the funds.
