UPDATED: US 50 East Crash Claims Life of Bedford Man

(BEDFORD) – A Bedford man died from injuries he suffered in an accident on US 50 East on Friday morning at Stove Road.

According to a Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department press release, deputies responded to a multiple vehicle crash with entrapment on US 50 East, just east of Stove Road at 8:05 a.m.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered two vehicles were involved and immediately checked on the occupants and their conditions.

The first vehicle, a 1997 International box truck owned by Cosner Tranportation, was being driven by Aaron Ducharme, of Bedford. The cab of the truck was on fire and had to be extinguished by fire personnel on the scene.

The second vehicle, a 2009 GMC was driven by Dylan Kern, of Bedford.

According to witnesses, Kern was traveling westbound and for an unknown reason drove across the center line and into the path of the Cosner truck. The vehicles collided and came to a stop in the eastbound lane of US 50 East.

Ducharme was able to crawl out of the driver’s side window and waited for the arrival of medical personnel. He was transported by IU Health Hospital ambulance to St. Vincent Dunn Hospital for treatment.

Kern died from his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Assisting at the scene were deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana State Police, firefighters and first responder with Shawswick Volunteer Fire Department, Bedford Fire Department and an IU Health Hospital ambulance crew.
