Making The News A Community Conversation

(BEDFORD) – You’re invited to a Lawrence County community conversation about journalism and how it’s done.

This free, daylong event features discussions and presentations with journalists about the newsgathering process and how journalism might better serve you and your fellow Hoosiers.
Offering insights about the inner workings of journalism, this forum is part of a research study designed to explore public perceptions of journalism.
This forum is part of a research study designed to explore public perceptions of journalism. You’ll complete an online survey in advance of the event, attend the daylong forum and participate in a focus group discussion, and complete an online followup questionnaire several weeks after the event.
The community gathering will include presentations and discussions with local journalists, editors and journalism educators. It will cover questions such as: How do newsrooms make decision about what is “news”? How do journalists know what they know? How do journalists conduct investigations? How can local journalism better serve your community?
This project is supported by Indiana University’s Arts and Humanities Council and the New Frontiers in the Arts & Humanities Program. The community partners for the event include IU’s Media School, 1340 WBIW, the Center for Rural Engagement, Indiana Public Media stations WTIU and WFIU, Bedford’s Times-Mail newspaper, the Bloomington Press Club and others.
