B-Line Trail Through Switchyard Park Closed Thursday Night for Stormwater Utility Installation

(BLOOMINGTON) – The B-Line Trail between Grimes Lane and the west access spur at Hillside Drive will be closed from 6 p.m. Thursday, March 14 through 7 a.m. Friday, March 15.

Utility work is continuing in Switchyard Park this week with the installation of a 27″ reinforced concrete pipe that will channel stormwater from the parking lot at Grimes Lane. Installing the pipe requires cutting through the asphalt on the B-Line Trail, making the trail temporarily impassable.

Once the pipe is in place, crews will fill in the trench and repair the cut in the B-Line Trail with cold patch asphalt to maintain the trail’s accessible surface until the trail is permanently re-paved.
A detour that will allow pedestrian and bicycle traffic to safely bypass the closure utilizes the sidewalks along Grimes Lane, Madison Street, and Hillside Drive. A short connector trail joins Hillside Drive to the B-Line Trail south of the closure area. The alternate route will be marked with B-Line Trail detour signs.
According to Bloomington Parks and Recreation Operations Superintendent Mark Marotz, contractor Weddle Brothers is planning the stormwater pipe installation at night to minimize disruption to people using the B-Line Trail.
The B-Line Trail will re-open to pedestrian and bicycle traffic at 7 a.m. on Friday, March 15.
