Police say Baker fatally shot Payne once in the chest. He was transported to Schneck Medical Center before being airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital in critical condition where he later died.
According to Seymour Police Chief Bill Abbott, Payne was exchanging his children with his ex-wife after a visitation when the incident occurred.
Chief Abbott says Baker had arrived separately and was not involved with the exchange. Payne began a verbal altercation with Baker which escalated. Police are unsure how long the argument took place before Baker shot Payne in the chest once with a revolver.
Four children were present during the shooting, Chief Abbott added.
