(STATEHOUSE) – An age limit on energy drinks? It could happen if a new bill by Republican State Senator Ron Alting becomes law.
Senate Bill 369 would make it illegal to sell, give, or distribute an energy drink to anyone under the age of 18. Anyone caught breaking the law would be charged with a Class C misdemeanor.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says 50-percent of American kids and teenagers have reported drinking energy drinks. Stating stimulants in the drinks can improve alertness and attention, but can also be harmful to the nervous system.
If the bill is signed into law, it would go into effect July 1.
