Shalom Center Federal Grant Helps Continue Homeless Assistance Programs

(BLOOMINGTON) – Bloomington’s Shalom Center is getting $860,000 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to continue its homeless assistance programs.

WFIU/WTIU News reports the money is part of $18 million awarded to 82 programs across the state.
Shalom executive director Forrest Gilmore says the money will help the center keep its housing first programs running.
Gilmore says those homes are known as the Crawford and Johnson homes. Together they provide a permanent home to more than a hundred adults and children.
The grants are renewal funding for previously funded local programs. HUD will announce new project awards at a later date.
