Phyllis Thompson – Bedford
January 5, 1924 – January 31, 2016
Phyllis Thompson, 92, of Bedford, died at 12:15 p.m. on Sunday, January 31, 2016 at White River Lodge in Bedford.
Born January 5, 1924, she was the daughter of Bernard and Lena (Stipp) Lundy. She married Clifford Lee Thompson, Jr. on December 9, 1954 and he preceded her in death on July 4, 2004. She was a homemaker and attended the Davis Memorial Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include four daughters, Rena Kay Brown Jackson, Lyn Brown McPike, Lee Ann Thompson Flynn, and Penny Thompson Hutchins; fifteen grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister, Gertrude Williamson, a son, Gary Wayne Brown and a daughter, Phyllis Jo Thompson Hanners.
Private services were conducted with burial in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.

Ricky Dale Strunk – Oolitic

Ricky Dale Strunk, 67, of Oolitic, went to his eternal home at 2:50 a.m. on Wednesday, February 32016 at I.U. Hospice House in Bloomington.
Born May 21, 1948 on Patton Hill, he was the son of Elmer and Zina (Hughes) Strunk. He married Debbie Lantz on January 15, 1972 and she survives. He was a member of the New Life Trinity Tabernacle. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam War as a Huey Helicopter Crew Chief and Door Gunner in combat with the rank of SP5.
Survivors include his wife, Debbie, of Oolitic; three children, Misty New and husband, David, of Bloomington, Marla Kirkman and husband, Troy, of Mitchell and Mathew Strunk and wife, Angie, of Bedford; seven grandchildren,
Grant New, Marayla and Akaylea Kirkman, Anyssa Strunk, Jordan Strunk and wife, Kelsey, Jarrod and Jacob Deckard; one great grandchild, Olivia (Gracie) Strunk; three people who were special to his heart, Stacey Terry, Craig Miller, and Josh Beyers; two brothers, Elmer Strunk, Jr. and wife, Martha, Sam Strunk and wife, Sue, all of Bedford; a sister, Donna Faye Stigall of Bedford.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Teresa Webb.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 6th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Mark Brock officiating. Burial will follow in Patton Hill Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 5th and from 9 a.m. until the hour of service on Saturday, February 6th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Clella Margaret “Peggy” Simmons, 91, of Bedford, died at 2:31 p.m. on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at I.U. Health Bedford Hospital.
Born April 4, 1924, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Edgar Joseph and Dorothy (Fletcher) Stevens. She graduated from the Bedford High School with the class of 1943. She married Ray Simmons, Jr. on February 25, 1946 and he survives. She had worked at the Greystone Gift Shoppe in Bedford for many years. She was a homemaker and a volunteer at the Bedford Regional Medical Center for eighteen years. She was a life-time member of the First Baptist Church in Bedford.
Survivors include her husband, Ray, of Bedford; three children, Steve Simmons and wife, Vicky, of Bedford; Pat Crane and husband, Lowell, of Mitchell, Mark Simmons and wife, Raeanna, of Columbus; six grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; one brother, Ed Stevens of Austin, TX; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Betty Lange.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 8th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Dave Colgan and Rev. Lee Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, February 7th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Betty Jane DuBray Hall – Bedford

Betty Jane DuBray Hall, 89, of Bedford, passed away at 5:15 pm on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at Stonebridge Health Campus.
Born February 14, 1926, in Florissant, Missouri, she was the daughter of Henri (Harry) Pascal DuBray and Gertrude Matilda (Albers) DuBray. Betty was a graduate of Ferguson High School in Missouri. She married Ray Samuel Hall of Bedford on February 14, 1946. She graduated from Indiana University with a Masters in Education. Betty taught at Parkview and Lincoln Elementary Schools.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bedford since 1955. Professional memberships included NEA, ISTA, NLTA, and Retired Teachers. Other memberships included Delta Kappa Gamma, Tri Kappa, University Women, and Red Hats. In earlier years, Betty volunteered with The Girl Scouts. Betty and her husband, Ray, chaperoned student study groups to Europe for The Foreign Language League and The American Institute of Foreign Study for a number of years during the summers.
Survivors include her sister, Isabel Davies of Chesterfield, MO, her children, Brenda Sanders and husband, Jack, of Johnson City, TN, Sam Hall and wife, Mellisa of Mount Vernon, IN, Damon Hall and wife Kimberly of Bedford, IN; six grandchildren, Jayne Sanders, Jill Sanders Dinco, Joseph Hall, Anna Hall D’Lima, Alafair Hall, and Benjamin Hall; three great-grandchildren, Roman D’Lima, Lucius D’Lima, and Julian D’Lima, and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, and siblings, Vera Frisella, Ruth Brannan, Harriett DuBray, and Pascal DuBray.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 6th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Lee Brown officiating. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 5th at Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will be at Cresthaven Memorial Gardens.

Margaret Kay Jordan, 77, of Mitchell, passed away Monday afternoon, February 2, 2016, at her home.
Born January 30, 1939, in Seymour, she was the daughter of Clyde and Alice
Genevieve (Stout) Beeman. She married Marion Paul Jordan September 22, 2003, and he preceded her in death March 31, 2005. Margaret was a member and organist at the Mitchell Wesleyan Church. She graduated from North Vernon High School in 1957, and had been employed in home health care.
Survivors include her children, Sue Ann Pridemore, of Mitchell, Terri Lynn Box, of Bloomfield, Douglas Wayne (Tiffany) Castetter, of Mitchell; grandchildren Apryl Dawn Kidd, Bradley Douglas Castetter; stepgrandchildren Jaylie Sams, Bryar Franklin
Her parents and husband preceded her in death.
Funeral service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, February 4, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Pastor Steve Jones and Pastor Wes Jones officiating. Cremation was chosen with burial to be at a later date in Vernon Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 p.m. until the service on Thursday at the funeral home.

Gary Dean Wessel – Bedford

Gary Dean Wessel, 72, of Bedford, died at 8:40 a.m. Tuesday, February 2, 2016, in Bedford.
Born June 25, 1943, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Willis Wessel and Violet (McGinnis) Wessel. He married Rita Dalton in 1963 and she preceded him in death in 2013. He was of the Protestant Faith and had owned Gary Wessel Trucking.
Surviving are three daughters, April (Mark) Perry, Angie Brown and Cindy (Bob) Owens; five grandchildren, Stephanie, Stephen, Lindsay, A.J. and Ashley; six great grandchildren; three sisters; one brother and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Rita; one daughter, Susan Wessel; one granddaughter, Jessica and two brothers.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, February 5, 2016, at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home, with Pastor Mike Eads officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.
