Opal June “Junie” Roberts – Bedford
Opal June “Junie” (Fish) Roberts, 84, of Bedford, passed away Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at Johnson’s Christian Village in Bedford, Indiana.
Born March 26, 1930 in Bedford, she was the daughter of Raymond and Elizabeth (Cummings) Fish. She married George Richard Roberts on March 26, 1949 and he preceded her in death on July 18, 2005. Junie graduated from Shawswick High School and spent the rest of her life doting over her husband, children, grand-children, and great-grandchildren.
Known as “Grandma Junie” for the last forty years, she loved playing cards, cooking (at which she played second fiddle to none), singing Christian music, watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren play sports, and fishing. She never saw a referee make a good call against her children, grand-children, or great-grandchildren. While raising fishermen and ladies for sixty-four years, she has still caught the largest bass, which weighed 11 3/4 pounds!
Survivors include daughters Mona (Steve) Miller and April Leann (Roy) Ritter both of Bedford; son, Randy (Emily) Roberts of Bloomington; grandchildren Michael (Beth) Miller of Bentonville, Arkansas; Audra (Adam) Sater of Ellettsville, Indiana; Paul (Bridgette) Owens of Mitchell, Indiana; Lucas (Jenny) Roberts of Bloomington, Indiana; Mitchell Roberts of Quinton, Virginia; and Maggie Roberts of Bloomington, Indiana; great-grandchildren, Lilly and Ella Miller; Kadesia and Javan Owens; Coleman and Winnie Sater; and Reece Roberts.
She was preceded in death by a sister Rhea Dawn Fish; her parents Raymond and Elizabeth Fish; her husband George Roberts; and a sister Maxine Dalton.
Private viewing will be handled by Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home with graveside services at the Mount Pleasant Christian Church Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made in Junie’s name to the Alzheimer’s Foundation Of America, 322 Eighth Avenue, 7th Floor, New York, NY, 10001 or online at www.alzfdn.org.
Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.fergusonlee.com
