Phillip “Spook” Allen – Bedford
Phillip “Spook” Allen, 63, of Bedford, died at 1:10 pm on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at I.U. Health Bloomington Hospice House.
Born October 15, 1950 in Bedford, he was the son of Estil Allen and Anna (Smoot) Turner. He was a stone quarry worker and loved fishing, hunting and auto racing. He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Christian Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his mother, Anna Turner of Bedford; two daughters, Melissa Gladden and husband, Carlos II, of Lexington, IN and Misty Deckard and husband, Chris, of Bedford; a son, Jack Spires and wife, Kelli, of Bedford; a brother, Paul E. Allen of Oolitic; a sister, Louise Allen of Ellettsville; two step-sisters; eight grandchildren, Carlos
Gladden III, Emily Gladden, Kayla and Sydney Deckard, Payton and Piper Spires, Draven Hughes and Rex Lovell;
several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Estil and a brother, Tony Allen.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am on Wednesday, April 23rd in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Charlie Scott and Rev. Kenny Walden officiating. Burial will follow in Hanson Cemetery with military rites accorded at the graveside by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion and D.A.V. Visitation will be from 4 pm to 8 pm on Tuesday, April 22nd at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
