Dolores A. Bales – Mitchell
Dolores A. Bales, 83, passed away at 9:10 a.m. Thursday, January 30, 2014, at Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital.
Born November 7, 1930, in Bedford, she was the daughter of William and Hattie (Williams) Briscoe. She married Charles Nelson Bales January 15, 1950, and he preceded her in death May 29, 1991. She had been director of Hoosier Uplands Head Start and also served on the Hoosier Uplands board. Dolores had served as treasurer of Mitchell Senior Citizens, and was a member of the West Baden Springs Historical Society, Dunn Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and was also a Happy Traveler. She graduated from Mitchell High School in 1949, was a member of the First Christian Church in Mitchell and attended the Saltillo Christian Church.
Survivors include children, Charles Eric “Rick” Bales, Mitchell, Michael Wayne (Robyn) Bales, Mitchell, Trudy Ann (Mark Craft) Bales, Fortville, Tessa Lea (Joey) Schilling, Bloomington; sweetheart, Ron Cash, Salem; 12 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren.
Her parents; husband; and siblings, Marie Baker, Raymond Briscoe, Bernard Briscoe, Alverta Todd, Mildred Meyers, and Maxine Briscoe, preceded her in death.
Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, February 2, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Brother Josh Brumfield officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, and from noon until the service on Sunday at the funeral home.
Casketbearers: Andy Bales, Isaac Terrell, Zach Terrell, Nate Oren, Jerrod Bales, Jimmy Bales, and Steven Sabo.

Barbara Nail – Bedford
Barbara Nail, 72, of Bedford, died at 8 pm on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at Westview Nursing and Rehab Center.
Born March 21, 1941 in Marion Co., she was the daughter of Lowell and Vivian (Exline) Stephens.
Survivors include a daughter, Vickie Eads of Bedford; grandchildren, Jon Sanders of Bloomington, Chalayna, Jeffrey, Heather and Lindsey Eads, all of Bedford, a great grandson, Adrian (Iffles) Eads of Bedford; a sister, Betty Spinks of Williams; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter (in infancy).
Memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 1st at the New Hope Community Church with Pastor Michael Eads officiating. Dress casual because Mom didn’t believe in getting “fancied up”. No calling hours are scheduled.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Day & Carter Mortuary.
