Harold E. Beaver – Bedford

Harold E Beaver, 78, of Bedford, died at 4:36 am on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at Stonebridge Health Campus.
Born June 28, 1935 in Lawrence Co., he was the son of John Elmer and Lottie M. (Crawford) Beaver. He married Barbara J. Miller on January 18, 1958 and she survives. He was a life-time member of the Elks Lodge and a member of Sons of the American Legion Gillen Post #33. Harold began his career in auto sales at Leroy & Tom’s Used Cars then at Pal Deckard Ford. Later he joined the sales staff at Zollman’s Bedford Auto where he spent most of his years from 1973 to 1988. He then worked at Dan Pearcy Chevrolet and retired from Babcock Motors in 1998. During his career, Harold gained a loyal customer base who returned over and over. He had a well-known reputation for his fair dealing in new and used automobiles. He was an avid I.U. basketball, Colts football, BNL football and basketball fan and auto racing fan. He enjoyed watching all his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-six years, Barbara of Bedford; their children, Mark (Dana) Beaver, Deborah Beaver, Karen (Beaver) Jacobsen and Kevin Jacobsen, Jane (Clipp) Crosby, Michael (Stephanie Odaffer) Beaver all of Bedford; grandchildren, Kole and Kori Jacobsen, Elli and Alden Crosby, Nikolas, Owen and Griffin Beaver; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, John Lewis Beaver, Ralph C. Beaver, Frank L. Beaver, Phillip O. Beaver, Priscilla (Beaver) Chastain, Rebecca (Beaver) Keith, David, Dorothy and Ellen (all in infancy).
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am on Friday, January 31 in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Fred Barger officiating. Burial will follow in Pinhook Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 pm to 8 pm on Thursday, January 30th at Day & Carter Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that friends consider memorial contributions be made to the Lawrence County Boys and Girls Club.

Mary Jo Southern, 87, of Bedford, died at 8:15 pm on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital.

Albert C. Craig, 68, of Williams, died Tuesday, January 2, 2014 at his residence.

Shirley Ann Gross – Martinsville
Shirley Ann Gross, 74, formerly of Mitchell, passed away at 7:50 p.m. Thursday, January 23, 2014, at the Waters of Martinsville.
Born October 12, 1939, in Mitchell, she was the daughter of Bernard and Blanche (Batchelor) Bowden. Shirley had been employed at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehabilitation Center and was a member of the Mitchell Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include her children, Jeff Gross, Canada, Gary Gross, Mitchell, Cathy Kern, Martinsville;
5 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; brother, Lester Wayne (Shirley) Bowden, Loogootee; sister, Karen R. Miller, Phoenix, Arizona
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Deanna Sipes; and brother, Jerry Albert Bowden.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, January 31, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Rev. Matt Moore officiating. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the service on Friday at the funeral home.
