James E. Vaughn – Bedford
James E. Vaughn age 92 of Bedford, passed away on Sunday October 6, 2013 at 3:10 p.m. at IU Health in Bedford.
He was born on January 5, 1921 in Virden, Illinois to Albert O. & Lula (Cook) Vaughn. James married Barbara L. Stevens in Danville, Illinois and she preceded him in death on July 4, 1990. James retired from GM Powertrain, where he was Assistant Superintendant of Die Cast. He was an US Army Veteran of WWII, he was a former member of Merrials Marauders in the South Pacific, and they fought behind enemy lines, CBI Theater. James was a member of the Bedford American Legion Gillen Post #33, & Bedford Free Methodist Church
Survivors include two daughters Judy Fields and husband Wilbur of Oolitic and Rebecca Andrews and husband Mark of Bozeman, Montana; one son Daniel Lee Vaughn and wife Antonia of Tonasket, Washington; four grandchildren Megan Andrews of Raleigh, North Carolina, Josh Andrews of Bozeman, Montana, Kristin Wintin and husband Frank of Bedford, Garrick Fields and wife Marsha of New Albany; one great grandson Paul Fields of New Albany.
James was preceded in death by his parents, wife, six brothers and five sisters.
Funeral Services will be on Thursday October 10, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Cresthaven Funeral Home with Bro. Mark Duncan officiating. Military rites will be given by the Bedford American Legion Gillen Post #33. Friends may call on Wednesday October 9, 2013 from 3:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Cresthaven Funeral Home. Entombment will be in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.
Beulah J. Helton – Bedford
Beulah J. Helton, 84, of Bedford, and formerly of Williams passed away at 6:50 a.m.Monday, October 7th at the I.U. Health Hospital in Bedford.
Born on December 1, 1928 in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Otis Nicholson and Jessie (Heady) Nicholson. She married Dewey A. Helton on January 31, 1947 and he preceded her in death on April 25, 2005. Beulah was a Homemaker and a member of the Old Union Christian Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Marie Pruett and her husband, Harley of Williams and Linda Todd and her husband, Jim of Bedford; six grandchildren, Danny Pruett, Roxi Robinson, Lenny Pruett, Kenny Todd, Bill Todd and Jill Todd, thirteen great grandchildren and two great, great granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one granddaughter, Kimberly M. Todd, one great grandson, Lenny Gage Pruett, a grand daughter-in-law, Lori Pruett, four brothers, Robert, Franklin, Otis Ervin and Bill Nicholson and a special friend, Juanita Quillen.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 10th in the Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary with Mike Holsapple officiating. Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Day & Carter Mortuary on Wednesday, October 9th from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Jerry Lee Clark – Camby
Jerry Lee Clark, 70, of Camby, IN, died Saturday, October 5, 2013 at his residence.
Born April 4 1943 in Jackson Co., he was the son of Robert Stanley “Bob” and Lula Maxine “Toots” (Wilkerson) Clark. He retired from General Motors and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1961-1964 as a E-3 on the USS Intrepid. He was a member of the Spring Hill Christian Center in Mooresville and had a nursing home ministry and had read his Bible from beginning to end over thirty times. He was a pilot and loved flying.
Survivors include a son, Jerry L. Clark, II of Greencastle; a daughter, Kimberlee Maners of Bedford; three grandchildren, Emilee N. (Clark) Woodsmall and husband, Matt of Indianapolis, Jasmine Grimes and Christian Pickard both of Bedford; two great grandchildren, Nathaniel Clark and Farren Woodsmall; a brother, James Clark and wife, Bev of Bedford; his ex-wife, Violet Carol (Sears) Clark Mikels of Bedford.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a great grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, October 11th in the Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastors Vernon Thompson and Rodney Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow in the Leesville Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion and D.A.V.Chapter 2. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, October 9th at the Spring Hill Christian Center in Mooresville and from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 10th at the Day & Carter Mortuary in Bedford.

Mary Frances Terrell – Mitchell
Mary Frances Terrell, 69, of Mitchell, passed away at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, October 6, 2013, at her residence.
Born March 16, 1944, in Summer Shade, Kentucky, she was the daughter of William Martin “Bill” and Annie Belle (Riddle) Melton. Mary Frances was a homemaker and a member of the American Legion Post No. 250 Auxiliary, and Bedford Boat and Sportsman Club Auxiliary.
Surviving are her husband of 18 years, William “Bill” Terrell, Mitchell; children, Cathie (Steve) Wampler, Mitchell, Mary (Brian) Reynolds, Bedford, Richard (Becky) VanMeter, Mitchell, Matthew VanMeter, Mitchell, Kimberly (Jason) Terrell, Mitchell, Missy Terrell, Mitchell, Christy Terrell, Bedford; sisters, Linda (Danny) Hopper, Orleans, Brenda Gilstrap, Bedford; brother, Jerry (Marylou) Melton, Bedford; 12 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren
Her parents; first husband, Leroy “Dickie” VanMeter; and sister, Nellie Sue Slaten, preceded her in death.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 10, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Bro. Jerry Allen officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until the service on Thursday at the funeral home.

Esther Ruth Freed – Mitchell
Esther Ruth Freed, 75, passed away at 4:45 p.m. Sunday, October 6, 2013, at Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital.
Born October 25, 1937, in Lee County, Virginia, she was the daughter of Cecil Neal and Cornia Irene (Hopkins) Ball. She married Charles F. Freed June 5, 1955. She was a homemaker and attended Grace Bible Church.
Surviving include husband, Charles F. Freed, Mitchell; children, Charles David Freed, Mitchell, Theresa Ann Tincher, Mitchell, Debbie Lynn (Billy) Hall, Lawrenceport, Jackie Neal Freed, Bedford, Bobby Gene Freed, Mitchell; 6 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; brothers, James Ball, Kokomo, Alan Ball, Bloomington.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Gloria Kay Snow and Golden Cottengaim; and brothers, Tony Ball and Lester Ball.
Graveside service will be at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 9, at Mitchell Cemetery with Pastor Dave Milkulsky officiating. There will be no visitation at Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center.

Cody Everett Chastain – Bedford
Cody Everett Chastain, 21, passed away Monday morning, October 7, 2013, at his residence.
Born October 28, 1991, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Sam and Stephanie (DeFord) Chastain.
He was employed at PRD and was a 2010 graduate of Mitchell High School. Cody enjoyed fishing, driving his Ford Mustang, and attending races with his sister, Samantha. He was a member of Woodville Baptist Church.
Survivors include his father, Samuel W. (Ashley) Chastain, Mitchell; mother, Stephanie Williams, Bedford; sisters, Samantha Chastain, Mitchell, Emma Chastain, Mitchell; brother, Silas Chastain, Mitchell; grandparents, Morris “Butch” and Nellotie Chastain, Mitchell
His maternal grandparents, William “PeeWee” and Lila DeFord, preceded him in death.
Graveside service will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, October 10, at Mitchell Cemetery with “Morris” Butch Chastain officiating. Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. on Thursday at Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center.
