The following obituaries were received for Wednesday –


Vanda P. Cooper – Mitchell
Vanda P. Cooper, 77, passed away at 11 a.m. Monday, February 4, 2013, at Westview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Bedford.
Born December 19, 1935, in Brownsville, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Edward and Blanche (Staggs) Higgs. She married Archie Fay Cooper March 13, 1971, and he preceded her in death July 11, 1989. Vanda had been employed at PTG and had been a cook at the Bedford Elks Lodge. She was a member of the First Church of God.
Survivors include her son, Gary Dean Johnson; brothers, Charles W. Higgs and wife Iva, of Mitchell, Alvin Higgs and wife Mary, of Mitchell; 4 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, infant Larry DeWayne Massey; stepdaughter, Diana Cain; brother, Jackie Higgs; and sister, Anna Louise Grissom.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 7, at Haverly Funeral Chapel & Cremation with Pastor Ray Jones officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 pm to 7 p.m. Wednesday, and from 9:30 a.m. until the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
Tina M. Hillenburg – Sacramenta, California
Tina M. Hillenburg, 49, of Sacramento, CA, formerly of Bedford, passed away on January 31, 2013 in Roseville, CA.
Born March 22, 1963 in Maryland, she was the daughter of Laramie and Sharon (Waggoner) Hillenburg.
Survivors include her parents, Laramie and Sharon Hillenburg of Bedford; a brother, James W. Hillenburg and wife, Sarah of Williams; a niece, Chelsea; a nephew, Evan; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Cremation was chosen. No services are planned. Arrangements are under the direction of the Day & Carter Mortuary.
Herschel Adams – Montgomery
Herschel Adams, 90, of Montgomery, passed away at 12:40 pm on Monday, February 4th at the Waters of Martinsville.
Born July 13, 1922 in Roland, KY, he was the son of Edward and Jessie (Shanks) Adams. He married Mae Rose Allison on August 23, 1941 and she preceded him in death. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WW II and an ironworker with Ironworkers Local #22 of Indianapolis.
Survivors include three daughters, Marlena Jordan, of Mooresville, Connie McDonald, of Birmingham, AL and Teresa Burkhardt and husband, Larry, of Edwardsville, IL; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; two brothers, Kenny Adams, of Linton and Jim Adams, of South Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, five brothers, one sister and one great great granddaughter.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 pm on Thursday, February 7th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Kenneth Adams officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery where military rites will be accorded at the graveside by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion. Visitation will be from 1 pm until the hour of service on Thursday, February 7th at Day & Carter Mortuary.
