Gerald Duane “Jerry” Carter – Bedford
Gerald Duane “Jerry” Carter, 82, of Bedford, passed away at 10:47 a.m. Monday, November 7, 2011 at IU Health Bloomington Hospital from complications due to cancer.
Jerry was born in Wheatcroft, KY., on November 21, 1928, to Henry and Virginia Carter. After graduating from Bosse High School in Evansville in 1946, he served in the National Guard and was a fixture in the community as a volunteer and active member of Shriners, Jaycees, Elks, American Legion and the Bedford Exchange Club. He was a Mason and member of the Lawrence County Patient Services and a member of First Baptist Church.
He worked at Indiana Insurance Company and joined Keach & Grove Insurance where he became owner. He was an avid reading and traveler visiting all 50 states and all seven continents.
Jerry married first to the late Helen Hitch and later to the late Emma Mae Bultman, who proceeded him in death on April 12, 1991.
He is survived by his children David Carter, of Indianapolis, Dan Carter and his wife Sherrie Carter, of Coral Springs, FL., Sharon Wilson, of Bloomington, his step children Susan and her husband Charlie Wier, Lester Bultman Jr, Wanda Lloyd and Mark Bultman; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several step grandchildren and great grandchildren, his brother John and his wife Sandy Carter of Evansville; sister Jackie and her husband Charles Presson of Pensacola, FL., several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Friday, Nov. 11th at 2 p.m. at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home with Pastor Kregg Burris officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home. The family ask that friends consider contributions may be made to the Lawrence County Patient Services in Jerry’s memory.
