H. Wayne Gorbett – Mitchell
H. Wayne Gorbett of Mitchell passed away on Tuesday, July 26th at Transcendent Healthcare at the age of 85. Born in 1925 in Ripley County to Raymond and Martha Gorbett, he had been married to Maralyn Holsapple since 1949; was a diesel mechanic and had been employed at Jefferson Trucking and Consolidated Freightways. Gorbett served 25 years on the Mitchell Volunteer Fire Department and was instrumental in organizing the Marion Township Fire Department; he was also a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II. Wayne is survived by daughters, Teresa Horton and Marisa Hull; one son, Ken Wayne Gorbett as well as several grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. Graveside services will be held will be at 1:00PM on Friday, July 29th at Mitchell Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107. Visitation will be from 11:00AM until 12:45PM on Friday at Chastain Funeral Home.
Barbara Turner – Mitchell
Barbara Turner of Mitchell passed away on Wednesday, July 27th at her residence at the age of 73. Born in 1938 in Bardstown, Kentucky to Thomas Woodrow and Mary Magdalene Janes, she had been married to Kenneth Johnson and later to Sam Turner. She is survived by daughters, Debbie Alton, Cathy S. Lee, Shelley Wigley and Lori Parker; as well as several grandchildren; one brother, Woodrow Janes and half sisters, Brenda Leach and Diane Pittenger. Funeral services will be held at 7:30PM on Friday, July 29th in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home with. Visitation will be from 5:00PM until the hour of service on Friday at the funeral home.
