Edna Marie Smither – Bedford
Edna Marie Smither of Bedford passed away on Friday, May 6th at Johnson Christian Village at the age of 95. Born in 1915 in Lawrence County to Samuel and Olivia Canada, she had been married to Paul Louis Smither since 1933, owned Smither’s Plumbing and Heating along with her husband and attended Calvary Chapel Church. She is survived by two daughters, Judith Jordan and Marilyn Jackson; several grandchildren and one sister, Maxine Flynn. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Gene Smither; four grandchildren; four brothers, Clifford, William, Russell and David Canada; as well as two sisters, Frances Brewington and Mary Jane Hasler. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Thursday, May 12th in the Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary with burial to follow in Beech Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 100:00AM until the hour of service on Thursday at the funeral home.
Betty J. Robertson – Bedford
Betty J. Robertson of Bedford passed away on Sunday, May 8th at her residence at the age of 89. Born in 1921 to James and Lola McGinnis, she had been married to John Robertson since 1942, owned Jeff’s Shoe Store and was a member of the First Christian Church. She is survived by one daughter, Susan Sargent; one son, Phil Robertson; several grandchildren and one sister, Carolyn Day. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister, Martha Gammon and two brothers, James H. and William McGinnis. Graveside services will be held at 11:00AM on Wednesday, May 11th at Green Hill Cemetery. Visitation will not be scheduled.
John David Leahy – Bedford
John David Leahy of Bedford passed away on Sunday, May 8th at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital at the age of 62. Born in 1949 in Lawrence County to Herschel and Elizabeth Leahy, he had been married to Kimberly Stanley since 1992, was a custodian for the North Lawrence School System and the Bedford Regional Medical Center. He is survived by his wife; three children, Bethaney Leahy, Matthew Leahy and Sarah Leahy and was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and two sisters. Funeral services will be held at 12:00PM on Wednesday, May 11th in the Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary with burial to follow in Beech Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00AM until the hour of service on Wednesday, May 11th at the funeral home.
