Wayne Fender, 100, Bedford

Wayne Fender of Bedford, known to friends and family as “Less”, passed away Saturday afternoon, January 23rd at Westview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center at the age of 100.


Born in 1908 in Lawrence County to parents Ora and Edla (McPike) Fender, he had been married to Catherine Weir since 1930 and Mary Hedrick Headdy since 1963, she had been employed at General Motors for 27 years, was a graduate of Bedford High School in the class of 1928 and attended the Central Church of Christ in Bedford and North Central Church of Christ in Bloomington.
He is survived by two daughters, Virginia Cunningham and Brenda Brummett; one daughter-in-law Paulette Fender; one step child, Winifred Headdy; as well as several grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Katherine Fender and Mary Headdy; two daughters, Marilyn Miller and Mary Wessell; one son, Ronald Fender; three step-children, Doris Anderson, Billy Headdy and Jerry Headdy and one granddaughter, Lana Kay Wessell.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 27th at 11:00AM at Ferguson – Lee Funeral Home with burial to follow in Beech Grove Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3:00PM until 8:00PM on Tuesday, January 26th at Ferguson – Lee Funeral Home.
