Wilma Smith, 98, Rivervale

Wilma Rose Smith of Rivervale passed away Tuesday evening, December 22nd at Medco Health and Rehabilitation Center in French Lick at the age of 98.


Born in 1911 in Tunnelton to parents, William T. and Rosa B. (Turley) Smith, she was a member of Jacob’s Finger United Methodist Church.
Wilma was a graduate of Bedford High School in the class of 1930, was a employed as a supervisor at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Missourl, served with the 91st General Hospital Army Nurse Corps and attained the rank of captain. She is survived by one sister, Dottie Jane Compton and one brother, Charles C.L. Smith as well as five nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Robert Smith and two sisters, Mary Elizabeth and Virginia Rose Zilaitis.
A private graveside service will be held at Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250 and Marvin R. Davis Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.
A memorial service is also planned at a later date.
