Opal McDowell of Bedford passed away Sunday, December 28th, 2008 at the age of 88.
Born in 1920 in Oolitic, Indiana to parents Thomas and Minnie McDowell, Opal was a member of Teamster Local 135, and was retired from Crulo Trucking Company.
He was a founding member of Calvary Chapel Church and served on the Board of Directors for 23 years, and was Treasurer for 19 years.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years Mary (Kirkman) McDowell. Daughter Judy Sipes and husband Larry of Mitchell; son Jim McDowell and wife Karen of Bedford; daughter Gaye Ann Stewart and husband Rick of Bedford; Jon McDowell and his wife Kathy of Springville; ten grand-children and six great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; six sisters, two brothers, and one grandson Justin McDowell.
Services will be held Saturday, January 3rd, 2009 at Calvary Chapel Church at 1:00pm with burial to follow at Hilltop Cemetery.
Visitation is Friday, January 2nd, 2009 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Day & Carter Mortuary and from 11:00am until the service at Calvary Chapel Church.
