Butler University Police Donates To Putnamville Correctional Facility Shifting Gears Program

(GREENCASTLE) – The Putnamville Correctional Facility recently received 27 donated bicycles from Butler University Police Department Officer Matthew Grimes. Butler University Police Department have been long time supporters of our Shifting Gears Program here at Putnamville.

Shifting Gears is a bicycle restoration project located inside the Putnamville Correctional Facility. Offenders of the Shifting Gears project work to rebuild and refurbish bicycles in need of repair. Once refurbished, they are sent to local community agencies for children or adults who are need of transportation assistance.

“The bicycles had been abandoned by students who left them on campus, and by the looks of them, many have been outside for some time.”, said Ofc. Matt Grimes. Students were given an opportunity to claim their bicycle before today’s donation; now it’s good to know these bicycles will be fully restored and put to good use.”

Deputy Warden Timmy Phegley, along with other staff members at the Putnamville Correctional Facility expressed their appreciation to Ofc. Grimes and the Butler University Police Department and to Bicycle Garage of Indy for their ongoing support and donations to the Shifting Gears program.
