BLOOMINGTON — The Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department is considering changes to the operating hours for city parks in response to a rise in security and maintenance concerns.

City parks are currently open to the public daily from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. The department is evaluating whether shorter operating hours could help address increasing incidents of vandalism, disruptive behavior, and illegal activities on park properties while still preserving access to public spaces.
The Board of Park Commissioners will formally consider the proposed changes to park hours during its regular meeting on Thursday, November 12, at 5:00 p.m. The meeting will take place in the Council Chambers at City Hall, located at 401 N. Morton St. Members of the public are invited and encouraged to attend the meeting to share feedback regarding the proposal.
For community members unable to attend in person, an online survey is available for residents to submit their input. The online survey will close at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 10.
