INDIANA — Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) fisheries biologists recently conducted a survey of bass populations in the Blue River as part of ongoing statewide monitoring efforts, confirming that the waterway continues to provide excellent fishing opportunities.
During the assessment, the fisheries team documented a total of 169 rock bass and 133 smallmouth bass across four different monitoring sites. While bass sizes varied by location, biologists found that the river’s deeper holes hold strong potential for larger fish. Many of the bass were observed congregated near woody debris and beneath overhanging rocks.

The DNR utilizes this ongoing monitoring to track population trends and evaluate the health of bass species in the river system.
