ORLEANS — Town officials in Orleans are reminding residents that a valid, approved Burn Permit is required before engaging in any open burning within the town limits.
Residents planning to conduct open burning must follow local municipal regulations and observe several specific restrictions. The only exception to the burn permit requirement is for burning contained within designated fire rings or outdoor fire pits.

Burn permit applications are available at no cost and can be picked up at the Orleans Town Hall during regular business hours, Monday through Friday.
Before any burning can begin, all applications must be submitted for review and formally signed off by the Orleans Fire Department Chief. Burning without prior approval from the fire chief is strictly prohibited.
Residents who have questions or require detailed information regarding open burning regulations and permit guidelines are encouraged to contact Orleans Town Hall at 812-865-2539.
