STATEHOUSE — State Sen. Eric Koch (R-Bedford) recently attended the unveiling of the newly renamed “Bob Knight Memorial Way” on State Road 45/46 in Bloomington.

During the 2026 legislative session, Koch sponsored House Concurrent Resolution 4 asking the Indiana Department of Transportation to rename the stretch of State Road 45/46 between College Avenue and Fee Lane in Bloomington to the “Bob Knight Memorial Way.”
Bob Knight served as head coach for the Indiana University men’s basketball team from 1971 to 2000. Coach Knight guided the Hoosiers to three national championships, including the 1975-76 undefeated season, which is the last perfect season in men’s college basketball. The stretch of highway is located near Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, IU’s home basketball arena.
“Coach Knight had a huge impact on Indiana University and our state. He was a fierce competitor and one of the best to ever coach the game,” Koch said. “It’s great to see this road renamed in his honor and to forever celebrate his lasting legacy on the game of basketball.”
Koch is the chairman of the Senate Committee on Utilities, ranking member of the Senate committees on Commerce and Technology and Judiciary, and a member of the Senate Committee on Corrections and Criminal Law. He represents Senate District 44, which includes Brown, Jackson, Lawrence and Orange counties, and a portion of Monroe County.
