Local accounting firm serves Northwest Indiana communities through fall volunteer efforts

MICHIGAN CITY — Regional accounting firm CLH, CPAs & Consultants continued its long-standing tradition of community engagement this fall, supporting multiple charitable initiatives across Northwest Indiana.

As part of their seasonal service projects, firm employees volunteered with Operation Feed LaPorte County and sponsored events for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s in both La Porte and Porter Counties. The efforts also coincided with the Indiana CPA Society’s statewide CPA Day of Service.

Fighting Hunger in LaPorte County

During Operation Feed LaPorte County’s recent Distribution Day, a team of CLH volunteers worked to sort, pack, and distribute 14,000 pounds of food and essential supplies, including fresh produce, canned goods, meat, eggs, and hygiene products sourced from local businesses to area families in need.

Cathy Homan, a CLH Associate and board member of Operation Feed LaPorte County, led the volunteer team alongside staff accountants Colin Flanigan, Matthew Flanigan, and Reid Schroeder.

“We were definitely getting a workout lifting boxes and canned goods, frozen meat, and bars of soap,” Homan said. “But it was incredibly rewarding to see how many people and organizations came together to make this distribution possible. It’s a great example of what can happen when our local community works together.”

To further bolster hunger relief, CLH donated over 1,800 pounds of livestock and poultry purchased through the LaPorte County 4-H Livestock Auction, helping convert local agricultural support into direct food assistance.

Supporting Alzheimer’s Awareness and Research

The firm’s outreach extended to the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s events across La Porte and Porter counties. CLH sponsored interactive “Selfie Stations” at both locations, where team members Seth Stemper, Madison Hayes, Yongshi Huang, and Emily Abuatieh greeted participants and supplied photo props to help attendees document the day.

Lynn Duttlinger, a Senior Director at CLH and Chairman of the Executive Leadership Team for the Northwest Indiana Walks to End Alzheimer’s, has personally raised more than $80,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association to date.

“The Walk to End Alzheimer’s brings people together for a cause that touches so many families throughout our communities,” Duttlinger said. “I’m proud to see our CLH team get involved and find a fun, personal way to support participants at both Walks.”

A Culture of Service

These initiatives aligned with the Indiana CPA Society’s (INCPAS) 2026 CPA Day of Service, an annual event encouraging accounting professionals across the state to give back to local organizations.

“Community service is an important part of who we are as a firm,” said Tony Gillisse, CPA and Partner at CLH. “Through Operation Feed, the Walk to End Alzheimer’s and other opportunities throughout the region, we’re grateful for the chance to work alongside organizations that are making a meaningful difference in the communities we serve.”
