CEDAR LAKE — An Indiana Conservation Officer playing a crucial role in a multi-agency response helped save a woman’s life during a medical emergency at a local restaurant on Friday night.
At approximately 9:35 p.m., Indiana Conservation Officer Alex Neel was on routine patrol in Lake County when he overheard emergency radio dispatch traffic reporting an unresponsive person at a local dining establishment in Cedar Lake.
Upon arriving at the scene, Officer Neel discovered bystanders performing CPR on an adult female who was unresponsive and not breathing. Recognizing the critical nature of the situation, Officer Neel immediately stepped in to assist with resuscitation efforts and deployed his department-issued Automated External Defibrillator (AED), administering multiple lifesaving shocks.
Officer Neel continued performing emergency medical procedures until personnel from the Cedar Lake Fire Department arrived and assumed advanced care.
Thanks to the rapid, coordinated resuscitation efforts between Officer Neel, bystander assistance, and emergency medical services, the woman regained consciousness at the scene. She was subsequently transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for further medical evaluation and treatment.
The Cedar Lake Police Department and Cedar Lake Fire Department assisted at the scene.
