Portion of State Road 45/46 dedicated to Indiana University coach Bobby Knight in Bloomington

BLOOMINGTON – The Indiana Department of Transportation announces the renaming of a portion of State Road 45/46 in Bloomington honoring Indiana University men’s basketball coach Bobby Knight.

This morning, family, friends, and partners of Coach Knight joined legislators and INDOT to officially name the portion of S.R. 45/46 located between College Avenue and Fee Lane as “Bob Knight Memorial Way.”

Knight coached the Indiana University men’s basketball team from 1971 to 2000, where he led the Hoosiers to three national championships, 11 Big Ten championships, and one National Invitation Tournament title. He also led the U.S. men’s basketball team to a gold medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

Coach Knight passed away on November 1, 2023, at the age of 83. He still ranks 14th on the all-time coaches list for victories and was named National Coach of the Year in 1975, ’76, ’87, and ’89. He was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 1991.

This renaming and dedication followed House Concurrent Resolution 4, authored by District 60 State Representative Peggy Mayfield, which was passed in February 2026.
