BLOOMINGTON – During the regular meeting of the Monroe County Board of Health on October 22, 2026, Monroe County Health Officer Dr. Sarah Ryterband tendered her resignation to the Board of Health effective immediately.
The Board of Health will work with the Monroe County Board of Commissioners and County Legal to appoint an interim Health Officer as soon as possible.
Because of the sudden transition, the Monroe County Health Department will be closed for walk-in services on Friday, October 23. Until an interim Health Officer is appointed, the Department will not be able to issue permits or birth/death certificates, nor provide STI testing or treatment. Individuals in need of other services can call the Health Department at 812-349-2543 to make an appointment.
The Board of Health and Department staff appreciate the community’s patience and support as they work to restore full services as soon as possible.
