WASHINGTON, D.C. — Tech billionaire Elon Musk announced on social media that he plans to give one share of SpaceX stock to every child in the United States, a massive pledge estimated at $10.7 billion that highlights his deepening alliance with political leaders and federal investment initiatives.

“Next year, I will give one of my SpaceX shares to every kid in America,” Musk posted on X, adding, “This will be the first of many”.
With roughly 73 million Americans under the age of 18, the proposed giveaway carries a price tag of nearly $10.7 billion based on SpaceX’s current stock valuation. While substantial, the total represents only a fraction of the aerospace giant’s estimated $2 trillion market value following its Wall Street debut earlier this year.
Integration with “Trump Accounts”
President Donald Trump publicly thanked Musk for the pledge, calling him a “legendary friend” and praising the gift as an act of “incredible generosity”. Trump confirmed that the donated shares are expected to be distributed through the administration’s Trump Accounts program.
First launched on July 4, 2025, the government-backed investment initiative provides seed funding for young Americans. Under the program:
- The federal government deposits $1,000 into accounts for eligible children, which remains locked until the beneficiary turns 18.
- Families and employers can make additional annual contributions.
- Corporate partners and private donors are permitted to deposit stock shares or match contributions directly into enrolled accounts.
Musk’s pledge follows a similar commitment made earlier this year by SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell and her husband, who pledged over $320 million worth of their own company shares to Trump Accounts for more than two million children in lower-income areas.
Financial and Political Context
The multibillion-dollar stock giveaway comes amid heightened political spending by the tech executive. Federal disclosures show Musk has contributed over $276 million (and counting) to support Republican candidates and conservative political action committees during this year’s election cycle.
Though details regarding the exact mechanism and timeline for distributing millions of individual shares remain under review by the U.S. Treasury, financial analysts note that the proposed stock deposit could significantly expand corporate equity ownership among American youth if successfully implemented.
