LAWRENCE COUNTY – A young Lawrence County resident is asking the community to help him become a real-life superhero by voting for him in the 2026 Stan Lee’s Super Kid competition.
Carter Fields is competing in the national contest, which celebrates young people and offers the winner an opportunity to appear as an original superhero in a limited-edition Stan Lee Universe comic book.

For Carter and his family, the competition also provides an opportunity to raise awareness of a rare medical condition that has shaped much of his young life.
Carter was diagnosed with recurrent respiratory papillomatosis, commonly known as RRP, when he was 19 months old. The rare disease causes noncancerous growths to develop in the airway, often affecting the vocal cords and making breathing and speaking difficult.
He has undergone 26 surgeries to remove the growths. His experience has made raising awareness of RRP an important part of his story.

Carter’s participation in the contest gives the Lawrence County community an opportunity to rally behind a local child while helping bring attention to a condition many people have never heard of.
Community members can support Carter by visiting his official contest page at https://thesuperkid.org/2026/carter-346e and casting a vote. Free voting is available once every 24 hours, allowing supporters to return daily to help Carter advance.
The competition also offers additional votes through donations, though donating is not required to participate in the free voting process.
Residents are encouraged to share Carter’s voting page with friends and family to help spread the word beyond Lawrence County.
For a local family facing the challenges of a rare disease, community support can make a difference in sharing Carter’s story and raising awareness of RRP. By taking a moment to vote, residents can show Carter that his hometown is behind him as he competes on the national stage.
