Effie Mae Smith, 85, of Bedford, died on Friday, October 16, 2026, at the home of her daughter.
Born May 29,1941 in Hazard, KY, she was the daughter of Green and Cappie Spicer. She married Homer Earl Smith in 1958, and he died on July 11, 1996.
Survivors include her children: Lisa Medlock and husband Max, Marcella Hargis and husband Dave; Mabel Smith; Mary Bieber; Tina Bailey; and Homer Smith Jr.; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Green and Cappie Spicer, and her husband, Homer Smith Sr.; a daughter, Cappie Gilbert; a great-granddaughter, Jada Gilbert; and several brothers and sisters.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20th at the Mitchell Cemetery with Pastor Bob Courson officiating. Visitation will be from Noon until 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
