BLOOMINGTON – Bloomington South, ranked No.2 in Class 3A, rolled to a 9-0 victory over Bedford North Lawrence in the first round of the IHSAA boys soccer sectional at Bloomington North on Wednesday.
Nathan Orth recorded a hat trick as the Panthers (12-2-3) advanced to the semifinal on Thursday. The Stars finished at 5-12.
South, which also conquered BNL 6-0 during the regular-season meeting on Aug. 25, exploded for four goals in the first 10 minutes. The Panthers cruised to a 6-0 lead at halftime and triggered the mercy-rule conclusion.
Orth scored all his goals in the first half. Andrew Wiley found the net twice, and the other South goals were recorded by Max Serafin-Odle, Evan Gales, Evan Borden and Liam Gregory.
