ORLEANS — Community members in Orleans are being encouraged to grab their work gloves and pitch in as the town officially kicks off its annual Fall Town-Wide Clean Up event.

Running from Monday, October 5, through Saturday, October 10, the weeklong community effort aims to give Orleans a thorough sprucing up before the colder fall and winter weather sets in.
Key Cleanup Options & Deadlines
Local officials have made two main disposal options available to make participating as easy as possible for residents:
- Large Dumpster at Town Garage: A heavy-duty roll-off dumpster is stationed at the Orleans Town Garage complex for public use throughout the entire week, featuring extended operating hours to accommodate residents’ schedules.
- Curbside Pickup Deadline: Town crews will be making rounds to collect larger discard items directly from residential curbsides. Residents utilizing pickup must have their discard items placed at the curb no later than Thursday, October 8.
Guidelines & Items of Note
To ensure operations run smoothly, town officials remind residents to adhere to standard municipal collection guidelines:
- Separation of Yard Debris: Indiana state law prohibits mixing yard waste with standard trash or junk in landfills. Tree branches, brush, and yard debris collected by town crews must be kept strictly separate from general bulk discard items.
- Prohibited Materials: Hazardous materials—including wet paint, chemicals, tires, and Freon-containing appliances—are not permitted in the public dumpster. Residents with questions regarding specific appliance handling or Freon disposal should contact the municipal offices prior to drop-off.
For specific questions regarding acceptable drop-off items, scheduling pickup assistance, or general municipal utility operations during cleanup week, residents can contact the Orleans Town Hall at 812-865-2539 or visit town.orleans.in.us.
