LAFAYETTE – Indiana State Police Superintendent Anthony Scott is pleased to announce the promotion of Sergeant Ben Rector to the rank of Lieutenant. Rector will serve as the District Commander of the Indiana State Police Lafayette District.
Lieutenant Rector is a15-year veteran of the Indiana State Police and has spent his entire career serving the Lafayette District. He was selected for promotion through a competitive process that considered written testing, an oral interview, years of service, education, and past job performance.
Rector is a native of Madison County, Indiana, and a graduate of Alexandria High School. He continued his education at Purdue University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Organizational Leadership and Supervision in 2009. Rector graduated from the 70th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy in March 2011 and was initially assigned to the Lafayette District.
Throughout his career, Rector has served in numerous roles within the Lafayette District. He has served as a Field Training Officer, K-9 Handler, and member of the Mobile Field Force. In 2017, he was promoted to detective, where he was involved in numerous criminal investigations and developed extensive investigative experience.
In 2024, Rector was promoted to Investigative Squad Leader within the Lafayette District Criminal Investigation Division. As a squad leader, he was responsible for supervising detectives, coordinating complex investigations, and providing leadership and guidance to investigators. His experience leading the Criminal Investigation Division provided Rector with additional supervisory experience and a broader understanding of the responsibilities involved in leading personnel and serving the Lafayette District.
Rector was recognized as the 2023 IPAC Officer of the Year. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a commitment to professionalism, preparedness, thoroughness, and service to the communities of the Lafayette District.
As District Commander, Lieutenant Rector will oversee the operations of the Indiana State Police Lafayette District, which serves eight counties. He will oversee the district’s personnel and operations, including patrol, criminal investigations, and administrative functions.
Lieutenant Rector’s 15 years of experience with the Indiana State Police, combined with his experience in patrol, criminal investigations, and supervision, will provide valuable experience as he assumes command of the Lafayette District.
